Myrtle Beach has one of the longest beach seasons on the East Coast, the water is swimmable May through October, so the real question is when it is warm without the peak crowds and rates. Here is the calendar.

Summer (June to August)

Peak season: hot, busy, and the highest rates of the year. The water is at its warmest and every attraction is open. Book oceanfront months ahead, and expect company on the sand.

Spring shoulder (April to May)

Golf season and the smarter family window. Crowds are thin and rates are well off peak; the ocean warms up by the second half of May. Among the best value on the calendar.

Fall shoulder (September to October)

The local favorite. The ocean is still warm from summer, the beach empties out, and in-season rates drop. Keep an eye on the tropics, but the trade is usually worth it.

Winter (November to March)

Mild, very cheap, and snowbird country. Not swim weather, but fine for golf, walks, and seafood, with many rentals at deep off-season prices. Pair this with our booking calendar and browse Myrtle Beach rentals.

The rest of the trip

After the rental, the rest.

A flight in, a rental car for dune drives, a boutique hotel for the last night before the airport. The pieces that complete a coastal week.
